Dear ʻohana Niuolahiki,
Aloha! We are proud to announce a brand new type of course called a “blended learning” course.
These quick, 10-week courses covering four chapter modules (1-4, etc.) per session are for those who prefer a combination of self-directed, asynchronous learning blended with live feedback from teacher-led discussions on each chapter’s vocabulary, short phrases and grammar. Students will also engage in simple translation exercises as well as composing a short haʻiʻōlelo hoʻolauna (introduction speech) to be recited at the end of the course as part of your final exam.
This blended learning approach will require the student to commit to completing chapter modules in a timely manner according to the class schedule as well as committing to a set schedule of online meeting times via Skype with the kumu (instructor) and fellow classmates at least twice a month for 30-60 minutes each session. Skype is an audio/video conference software that can be downloaded to your computer and used for free. Skype sessions with our kumu are usually held on Saturday mornings or Sunday evenings Hawaiʻi time in order to accommodate haumāna from around the world.
This blended learning course will now begin on January 9th, 2012. Space is limited to 20 students per session. Registration will close on Sunday evening, January 8th. Click here for more information and enroll today.
Again, we look forward to working with you more closely as you learn Hawaiian online with us.
Mahalo nui,
na Ke Kime Niuolahiki (The Niuolahiki Team)
